Thank you so much for your interest! The first step you can take, you probably already have. Chances are that if you're here reading this, you don't litter. The next step is to pick up litter when you see it. We get in the habit of walking past trash all the time. There are some things that are too gross or unsafe to handle, but wrappers, cups, bottles, and the majority of stuff we see is alright and is generally near a trash can. The city has done an excellent job of placing trash cans and recycling bins all over. This small change, if adopted by many people, can make a big difference! Getting in the habit of carrying a bag around with you all the time that you can use for litter is another easy approach to this.
If you want to be part of Pick Up Uptown and want to agree to make this change, will out the form below and we'll send you a little card in the mail with stickers and member card.
The goal is that the cleaner the place becomes the less normal it will be to litter. Having spent a considerable amount of time cleaning up this year, I can tell you that on many occasions people see me picking up and then they do the same. We want this to catch on! We hope to see less littering going on in the long run.
You are also welcome to do dedicated trash pick ups- going out for the sole purpose of walking around and picking up trash- but that is not what you are agreeing to do as a Pick Up Person. The commitment is that you pick up as you see it and as you are out and about. Truly though, I like to do both. If you are looking for groups to pick up trash with you can find them listed on the home page.
